The Origin
Where OCA Watersports Earned Its Reputation.
It started in 2010. While every other jet ski rental company in Ocean City Maryland was keeping riders locked in a buoyed-off bay circle, we were thinking about what a real ride could look like. Open water. Real distance. Something worth remembering.
We mapped the bay. We scouted the route from our dock at 12817 Harbor Rd all the way to Assateague Island National Seashore — a 6 mile stretch of water that passed sandbars, million-dollar waterfront homes, open bay, and ended at one of the most protected, untouched shorelines in the entire country.
We called it the 6 Mile Ride. We gave riders 70 minutes — not 60 — because we ride too, and we knew what that extra 10 minutes meant out there.
Every other company in Ocean City that talks about riding to Assateague today? They're following our lead. We built this route.
"We created the 6 Mile Ride. The unequal watersports rental company — where being equal isn't good enough."
The Route
6 Miles. Endless Adventure.
From our dock in downtown Ocean City MD to the wild shoreline of Assateague Island National Seashore. Here's every stop along the way.
Stop 01 · The Launch
Our Dock — Downtown Ocean City
📍 12817 Harbor Rd, Ocean City MDYou arrive at our dock at 12817 Harbor Rd — right on the bay with direct water access and the biggest riding area in OC. Orientation. Waivers. Briefing on the route south to Assateague. Then you launch.
Stop 02 · The Open Bay
Full Throttle Freedom
🌊 Largest riding area in Ocean City MDWithin minutes of launch you're heading south into wide open water — 6 miles of bay stretching along Assateague Island all the way to the Verrazano Bridge. No circles. No buoys. No other company gives you this. Hit the throttle and ride. Million-dollar waterfront homes line the shore. The coastline of Assateague opens up ahead. This is the ride.
Stop 03 · The Sandbars
The OC Sandbars
🏖️ Shallow-water carving groundAs you approach Assateague Island, shallow sandbars rise from the bay floor — some just inches deep. Cut through them. Slow down and drift across them. Pontoon riders beach here. Jet ski riders carve circles. This is where Ocean City's summer crowd completely disappears.
Stop 04 · Assateague Island Coastline
The National Seashore
🌿 37 miles of federally protected wildernessYou arrive at Assateague Island National Seashore — a 37-mile barrier island with zero development. No hotels. No condos. Just wild beach, barrier dunes, and the Atlantic. The contrast from Ocean City just 6 miles behind you is staggering. Protected by the National Park Service since 1965.
Stop 05 · Wild Horse Territory
The Wild Horses
🐴 Free since the 1600sThe famous wild Assateague horses have roamed this island for over 400 years. Legend says they swam ashore from a Spanish shipwreck in the 1500s. Whether true or not, seeing them on the beach — from the water, from your jet ski — is a moment that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world quite like this.
Stop 06 · The Return
Sunset on the Bay
🌅 The best view of Ocean City, MarylandYou turn back toward the OC skyline with the sun dropping behind it and the bay going glassy. This is the most photographed part of the ride — riders slow down here on instinct. You've just done something that most people visiting Ocean City never even know exists. See you back at the dock.

The Place You'll Be Riding To.
Here's what you should know about Assateague Island before you ride there.
Miles of Protected Coastline
Assateague Island stretches 37 miles along the Atlantic coast, shared between Maryland and Virginia. As a National Seashore protected by the National Park Service, the land looks exactly as it did hundreds of years ago. No hotels. No condos. No development. Just wilderness.
Wild Horses Since the 1600s
The Assateague horses have roamed freely for over 400 years. Local legend says they swam ashore from a Spanish shipwreck. Whether true or not, they are a recognized wonder — and you might see them just feet from the waterline on the bay side of the island during your ride.
Dolphins in the Inlet
Atlantic bottlenose dolphins are regularly spotted in the waters between Ocean City and Assateague Island. We can't promise them on every ride — but it happens often enough that we talk about it in every pre-ride briefing. When it happens, riders go quiet. It's that good.
A National Seashore — Not a Resort
Assateague is protected federal land. No hotels, no condos, no development. Just 37 miles of wilderness, barrier dunes, and wild shoreline. The contrast to Ocean City — just 6 miles away by water — is staggering. One of the most unique natural experiences on the Eastern Seaboard.
The Bay-Side Sandbars
On the bay side of Assateague, shallow sandbars emerge from the water — some just inches deep. Pontoon riders beach here and walk on the island. Jet ski riders carve through the shallows. This is where Ocean City's summer bustle completely disappears and the wilderness takes over.
OC From the Water
The view of Ocean City, Maryland from the middle of the bay — skyline, the Ferris wheel, the Rt. 50 bridge — is something most visitors never see. From Assateague looking back toward OC, the entire resort city appears like a thin strip between two bodies of water. It reframes everything.

What Riders Say About the Ride
The 6 mile ride was absolutely incredible. No other jet ski place in OC even comes close. You actually get to RIDE, not just go in circles. We saw dolphins and got to cruise by Assateague. Already booked again for next weekend.
We've been coming to Ocean City for 15 years and this was the most unique thing we've ever done here. The route to Assateague, seeing the wild horses from the water — we had no idea this even existed. OCA is in a class by themselves.
70 minutes feels like the right amount of time — 60 would have felt rushed. The 6 mile route is the real deal. Wide open water, the horses on the beach, sandbars you can carve through. Best watersports experience I've had anywhere on the East Coast.
